Genealogy is one of the fastest-growing hobbies in the United States. The Laurel-Jones County Library System, Inc. (LJCLS) provides a Genealogy Department with a trained genealogist to assist you in how to trace and document your family history. There are two (2) microfilm readers/printers and three (3) public access computers to assist in your research. Some of the available materials are:

  • approximately 4,000 family files and family history books;
  • census information for the state of Mississippi for the years 1820-1880 and 1900-1940;
  • microfilm copies of the Laurel Leader-Call from 1902 to March 2012;
  • various histories of military units, biographies, and memoirs;
  • Chronicling America
  • The Family History Guide
