The Children’s Department of the Laurel-Jones County Library System, Inc. offers a variety of materials to encourage reading and literacy in children of all ages. A weekly theme for children’s programs connects arts and crafts to developing reading and social skills. Also featured are puzzles, toys, magazines, and coloring sheets to stimulate young children’s intellect and encourage a love for learning. Children’s Services are available at each library system location: Ellisville Public Library and Laurel-Jones County Library.

A program exploring books, songs, and fun activities designed for babies and toddlers.
StoryTime – each Tuesday @ 10:00 am in Laurel & each Thursday @ 10:00 am in Ellisville
This program features fun stories followed by a related craft designed to encourage a love of reading and help develop reading and social skills in young children.
Regular programming will be postponed during Summer Reading.
Summer Reading programs are held at both library locations each week throughout the month of June. These programs are designed to maintain children’s skills and interest in reading during school breaks. These special events feature performers, storytellers, art, games, laughter, and lots of page-turning fun for all ages.

Easy- This book section features board books and picture books for children from 0 to 3rd grade.
Juvenile Fiction – This book section features chapter books for children in 2nd to 6th grade.
Young Adult – This book section features books for children in 7th grade and up.
Audiobooks, eBooks, and Video Games for children of all ages.

Each library system location has a Reading Area, which features a bright, comfortable seating area for children to read. Also available are toys, coloring sheets, and puzzles to stimulate imagination and encourage a love for learning in children.
Children’s touchscreen computers are available at each library system location. The purpose of these computers is to help teach important technical skills as well as provide educational programs to young learners in both English and Spanish. These Early Learning Stations for children were funded under the federal Library Services and Technology Act administered by the Mississippi Library Commission for the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
